Today I’m going to show you how I went about making Weston! Basically all I had to do was re-wig him and boy! was it hard!
So here are my supplies (minus the wig, of all things I forgot to bring out! XD ). I bought a Julie doll on eBay recently for about $40 – luckily she came in great condition! I had been searching and bidding on Julie dolls for a long time, but they always ended up getting too high in price. You can imagine my delight when I won her! 😀
Julie’s hair was pretty ratty, so the first step I took in preparing to re-wig was brush out her hair, misting it with water to help get the tangles out 🙂
This is how it looked after I brushed it out for a while. I wasn’t too concerned with getting it absolutely perfect, but I at least wanted to get it looking nicer than it did 😉
A lot of hair came out… And tons more was all over me. XD
After brushing out her hair, I grabbed my Magic Eraser and started scrubbing her skin. Magic Eraser really works wonders!
Here’s the Eraser after I finished cleaning. Not too bad!
Then I grabbed the spoon and started pushing near the back of her neck. Ugh, it was so hard. In this picture it’s actually my mom doing it – my thumb was hurting from pushing so hard, so we took turns XD She helped loosen it up and then I took over. After I got most of it done, I let her do the rest cause my hand was killing me XD
Also, you can see that Julie had her ears pierced. I was worried about the holes showing at first, but I’m so relieved that the wig covers them up 🙂
Here she is without her wig! I don’t mind telling you, I felt evil as I was removing her wig. But knowing that I was gonna have an adorable new boy doll afterward really helped motivate me to keep going!
The wigs are glued on all around the edge of the head and right at the top.
Just thought you might wanna see the back of the head XD IT LOOKS SO WEIRD!! XD
And TA-DA! Here’s Weston! I didn’t end up gluing his wig on just because it fit so perfectly without it. I’m not worried about it coming off at all and it’s not like I’m gonna be a crazy person with his hair, so it should totally be fine without it 😉
I was surprised that it actually didn’t take as long as I thought it would to re-wig him. Again I’ll say, though, it was painful! My thumb was literally raw that whole day and each time it touched something it hurt. Not fun. XD But yeah, you’ve really gotta jab into the edge of the wig with the spoon and press up, trying to lift it and separate it from the head. I also forgot to mention, I put Julie’s hair in a bun so it would be easier to work with 😉
If you have any questions about something I maybe forgot to mention, I’d be happy to answer them in the comments! Don’t hesitate to ask 😉
Have you ever re-wigged a doll?
Have a great day!
Now I REALLY want to make a custom doll! XD If I did, I would buy a doll with blue eyes off Ebay and give her this wig: http://beautifullycustom.com/shop/joy-wig-dark-auburn/
Weston looks amazing! You did a great job. 😀
OH MY GOSH!!! That wig is GORGEOUS!!! :O
Thanks so much, Clara!! 😀
I KNOW, right? I LOVE IT. :O XD
No problem! 🙂
Awesome! I always love-kinda-not-love seeing customization processes because it’s cool….but also kind of creepy to see a doll without a wig! Weston is adorable! And I lvoe his name . 🙂
<3 Miri <3
Thanks, Miri! 😀 And I totally know what you mean – they can be kinda creepy XD
Oops! I meant love, not lvoe. 😉
<3 Miri <3
Cool! Thanks for doing this post! Weston’s hair is SO FLUFFY!!!!! I just wanna touch it! XD
<3 , IrishAG
Thanks! And you’re welcome 😉
LOLOL! I KNOW!!! XD
Very cool! Congratulations on Weston joining your doll family! (Did I say that already? Oh well, I’m saying it again – congratulations.) 😉
LOL! Thanks so much, Lizzy! 😀
That’s so cool!!! I’ve tried searching for dolls on eBay for a while but never found one for a good price.
Thanks, Rebekah! It can definitely be tough to find inexpensive dolls on eBay. I wish you luck on your search! 🙂
Thank you for posting this! We’ve been considering creating a boy doll lately, so this is very helpful!! Your poor thumb!! Well, Weston looks adorable, so it was worth it! 🙂 Awesome job!

You’re welcome! I’m so glad it was helpful for you 🙂
LOL! Thanks! I think he’s pretty adorable, too 😉
OMG! He’s so adorable! I am herby inspired to do a boy doll in the future XD! It sounds painful! I’m going to try to see if I can find any hacks for it in the future. I’ll keep you posted, lol!
Thanks so much, Keira! I’m excited to see your future boy sometime! ;D
LOL! If you do, please let me know! XD
To get the wig off, did you just have to pry it off with a spoon? (I have never re-wigged a doll before so I was just wondering :P)
Yep! You just push and jab with the spoon, starting at the back of the neck 🙂
Aaahhh! You did an amazing job! Weston is SO cute. Did his wig come that way, or did you style it? Either way, it looks really good. 🙂
P.S. have you heard about my writing challenge? Check out my blog for more details!
Awe, thank you so much, Rutvi! 😀 His wig came that way 🙂
P.S. I have! That’s awesome that you’re doing that, but I’m unfortunately not gonna be able to participate. I need a break from writing challenges for a while to work on my own writing 😉 I certainly hope you’re getting lots of participants, though! 😀
Good work, he’s really cute! I’ve done both re-wigging and eye-swapping and I will definitely take re-wigging. I think eye-swapping is super hard!
Thanks so much! 🙂
Oh, yeah. Eye swapping is something I can not bring myself to do… I think wigging and adding freckles is as far as I’ll go in customization! XD
Congrats on the new doll! Weston looks amazing! 😀 I’ve never customized a doll, but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Again, Weston looks great, and I can’t wait to see posts featuring him!
Thanks so much, Loren! 😀 Would you make a boy doll or customize a girl? 🙂
You’re welcome! Probably a boy. It would be neat to have a guy in my doll family.
Awesome! I definitely love having my boy dolls – it gives so many more opportunities! 🙂
WESTON!!!! He is SOOO cute!!!!
EEE!! I know!! And thanks! 😀
Hey, just wondering, where did you get his wig? I’m thinking about making a custom boy doll, but I’m not having much luck finding wigs.
I got his wig on sale from beautifullycustom.com
She makes AMAZING wigs! Definitely check her out 😉
P.S. I also think she’s supposed to have a sale on wigs on July 2nd 😉
OK, thank you!
You’re welcome 🙂
I could only find girl wigs . . .?
Oooh… Hm. I wonder if maybe she doesn’t do boy wigs all the time… :/
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize and didn’t check before I sent the link. I guess I should have. :/
Again, I’m so sorry! If I find anything, I’ll be sure to let you know 🙂
That’s OK, I’ll just keep searching for wigs. 🙂 Thanks for your time, though!
Alrighty, no problem! Good luck on your search 🙂
