My First Doll Rescue~ Part 1

So, today me and my mom were out doing errands and all of a sudden she said, “I have a feeling to go to the Thrift Store.” and I said, “Oh, my gosh, can we go?!” And we stopped off at the Thrift Store!!
We looked through all of the bins and I found a few dolls (not AG). One was an adorable Precious Moments Doll, but I decided not to get her because she would end up just sitting on a shelf and would never get attention. And then I found a Disney Animator’s Collection Rapunzel Toddler Doll! I kinda wanted to get her, but she wasn’t really calling to me. Then I found an 18″ Madame Alexander Doll. She was only $4.99 and I really wanted to rescue her. So when I was checking out the total ended up being $2.70!!! It turns out that all yellow tags were 50% OFF!!

I feel so bad for this doll. She’s definitely “A bit of a fixer-upper” ( πŸ˜‰ )!

image

She has big round marks on each of her cheeks. It looks like highlighter to me.

image

Her hair isn’t in the best condition, but it’s not too bad.

image

The shirt she’s wearing is from American Girl! Anyone know what outfit this is from?

image

On a couple of her finger nails there’s what also seems to be pink highlighter.

image

I took a picture of her Style#. Do any of you know which doll this is?

I’m really excited to have my first doll rescue and to fix her up! I hope I can get her looking nice and pretty again. Well’p, it’s time for me to get to work! πŸ˜€

Have you ever rescued a doll?

  • Cool! are you going to post the winner today???? πŸ™‚ ~Leah

  • That is so awesome! I really want to get the Rapunzel doll sometime! She is so cute!
The shirt looks like it’s from the Everyday Play Jumper set, or the Pretty & Plaid School Dress outfit. Those are the two outfits I thought of when I saw the shirt! πŸ™‚

  • Hi!

I have rescued two dolls, they were both our generation dolls from the thrift store. One’s hair was cut soooo short that I decided to make him a boy. His name is Carter. And then another, (I want to re-wig her sometime) is Tania.

Wow! I think she is an older key to my heart doll but I’m not sure. I have her so. The shirt is from the pretty and plaid dress for dolls. I have it. Actually Felicity is wearing one of the shirts from it in one of my posts on my blog LOL!

Nail polish remover should probably work, or maybe some rubbing alcohol to get off the highlighter.

  • I have her!!!!!!! That’s Susan (for me,anyway) if you need any more info, just ask me πŸ˜‰
Mage is one of the older Madame Alexander’s and very well made! I got my doll around 2008.
πŸ™‚ congrats,by the way! I love thrift shops!!

  • Oh wow! That’s really cool! I would love to do something like that! πŸ™‚ And as for the shirt.. Well, it is hard to tell. But does the shirt have a tag? If so, what’s the date? I think I might know what the shirt is from: The Pretty and Plaid Dress! Check it out: http://americangirl.wikia.com/wiki/Pretty_and_Plaid_Dress
They don’t sell the outfit anymore, but I found it on American Girl Wiki.
    What do you think?

  • Congratulations. Dr. Di at Doll Diaries may be able to answer any questions you have about restoring this lovely doll. The only thing I could find out is that she isn’t that old…2009.

AG Ikia might help with the shirt. http://americangirl.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_My_American_Girl_Outfits

  • That’s a great find, Jaclynn! I’m not sure which doll she is, but I know that shirt is from Pretty and Plaid Dress, I have it.

  • Aw! Poor doll! She looks like she’s been through alot πŸ™
The top is from the Pretty in Plaid Dress:

And I think the dolls is this one, but I’m not sure:

Well, I got Abbie off Ebay and I fixed her up, same with Molly, but other than that, I haven’t really fixed up any dolls.
What are you going to name her?
    ~Carli
P.S. Are you going to announce the winners of you giveaway soon?

    • I know, it’s heartbreaking πŸ™
Thank you so much for the links!
Well, I thought for a long time, but I’m pretty sure I am naming her Lana πŸ™‚
      ~Jaclynn~
      P.S. I’m so sorry I didn’t post it yesterday I got busy, but it’s posted now πŸ˜‰

  • this looks cool! i love “fixing up” my sisters dolls, who are always on the floor in a mess.

  • That’s so cool! What are you going to name her? Maybe you could do a Name that Doll? And you could pick a name that you really like?

  • Wow! That doll is very pretty, though she does need a bit of TLC. I have rescued a doll before…. from my sister! πŸ˜€ My older sister had an American girl doll, Emily, who was very old and dirty and had tangly hair. I gave her a cleaning with baby wipes, and gave her hair a shampooing and a downy dunk. It really helped!

  • Oh my gosh! I saw the same doll at my goodwill for 3 bucks…weird! I didn’t buy her, though. The shirt that she is wearing is I think from the pretty and plaid dress. She is madame Alexander friends doll.

  • That shirt is from the Pretty and Plaid Dress. I have it! I hope your new doll will be happy in your doll family. πŸ™‚

  • She’s definitely ‘a bit of a fixer-upper’ πŸ˜‰ I love rescusing dolls. I’ve rescued a million barbies and gave them away, but never 18″ dolls. That’s awesome how you’re rescuing her!!

  • She is a very pretty doll! I would LOVE to find a doll who needs a little extra TLC, but the Goodwill closest to me closed, and I haven’t had very good luck at the Salvation Army, yet! eBay is an option, but my mom doesn’t approve of me bidding on things, you know what I mean? Good Luck! ~Marble

    • Aw, that’s too bad πŸ™
Yes, I know what you mean. I hope you can find a doll that needs TLC for a good price very soon πŸ™‚
Thank you! I’m actually making very good progress. The stains are almost completely gone and then I’ll work on her hair! I’m so excited to see her looking perfect! πŸ˜€
      ~Jaclynn~

  • I don’t think the shirt is from the everyday play jumper because that shirt was a turtleneck. But I don’t know where it’s from…

  • Wow. Great find, Jaclynn! πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to see her all spruced up!

  • Did you ever fix her up? πŸ™‚ Can you post photos of her? πŸ™‚

    • Oh, my goodness. I have got to be the most forgetful person EVER πŸ˜›
Yes, she is all fixed up and looks great! I will try to remind myself to take pictures of her and also to start including her in some posts πŸ™‚
Sorry for never posting pics. I’m insane LOL! πŸ˜›
      ~Jaclynn~

  • Did it look like it had braids up in the front pieces. Just wondering cause I THINK I HAVE THAT DOLL.

  • The shirt is from the retired AG pretty in plaid outfit. Saige is wearing it right now! πŸ™‚
