Planning For Hillside

Oh, my goodness! Tomorrow it will mark one week exactly until the Hillside Farms Holiday Craft Fair! I must admit that I haven’t been doing much crocheting for the past couple of months, cause in my head I think “Oh, there’s plenty of time!” and so at night I would just sit and watch movies while doing things on my iPod…. Ugh, so bad. Now that it’s a week away I am feeling majorly stressed! I still have so much to make and so little time! Eeks! πŸ˜•

Anyways, I didn’t want to fully neglect all of you for a week, so my mom gave me the idea to post about my preparation for the craft fair! I thought it was a great idea, so here we go!

I usually bring seven of my dolls to the craft fair each year, but since I have SO many new costumes (I’m planning to have every single main Disney Princess dress), I decided that I need to bring them all (and my friend Emma is loaning me one of her dolls to be Merida. Thank you SO much)! But that was a problem. I needed to find a way to make sure they all could fit, and also have some room to lay my other products on the table. So today I got the table out and made all of my dolls fit on top! YAY! πŸ˜€Β The ones in the back are going to be raised up, too, but I need to buy some more risers, so that’s why they aren’t even with the others πŸ˜›

Then after that, I needed to see if our big 30 gallon bin, would hold all 15 dolls, and it did!! But I need to buy a new one for myself because my mom uses that bin for all of her stuff πŸ˜‰

Now I am off to crochet! This whole next week is going to be crazy busy, but I promise, you will still see some posts from me! πŸ™‚

Bye for now!

  • jaclynn, you and another friend are the whole reasons i started crocheting myself.
i saw what cool stuff you were making your dolls, and i was totally like, “i have got to do that; i knit sew, and felt, so why don’t i do that?” here i am , and i mostly make stuff fro myself. anyway, my point is, you should show us how you make some of your stuff! you know, a pattern! that would be cool.
i know people will love your stuff, a lot of parents will probably be buying your dresses and hats as christmas gifts! gee, i wish i could sell my skirts and all that stuff at a craft fair… it sounds fun. πŸ™‚
sorry for another super long comment, i don’t know whats wrong with me lately! haahah.

  • Good luck at your craft fair!
    ~Kathryn~

  • No problem! Even though I keep thinking I’m loaning Sloan to you for Aurora!XD
I’m super excited for the craft fair too!:D
    -Emma-

  • Wow!!! Good luck! πŸ˜€

  • Good luck at Hillside! Your dolls look great on that table πŸ˜‰

  • Make great crochet creations! Hope lots of people buy your stuff!! Good luck at the fair!! <3

  • Hope you get everything done in time. I’ve been doing some sewing and crocheting recently. I was at my local Hancock Fabrics Store and saw a book called “Ice Princesses.” I picked it up and looked through it and was surprised and excited to see the picture of your Saige and Caroline in their crocheted Elsa and Anna outfits. It was so cool to see one of your pictures in a book! You are an amazing crochet artist! I hope you make a good amount of money at your craft fair!

    • Thank you! πŸ™‚
Oh, my goodness! That’s so amazing that you found that!! People on Etsy had contacted me a few months ago about wanting a picture of my Frozen set for a book/magazine they were making called Ice Princesses, and of course I said yes! We got our copies about a month ago, but I just kept on forgetting to post about it! πŸ˜›
Thank you so much for the compliment and for letting me know that you found that book! It made me so excited to hear that! πŸ˜€
      ~Jaclynn~

      • That’s really super exciting!!!!! πŸ˜€
        Happy Thanksgiving!
I have a quick question- I got an email from you titled Happy Thanksgiving but when I went to comment it said there was no post. Do you know what happend?
Hope you have a GREAT thanksgiving!!!

        -Grace

        • Thank you! And Happy (late) Thanksgiving! πŸ™‚
Oh, yes, I accidentally published it, when I meant to schedule it for Thanksgiving Day, so I had to take it down right away. That’s why it disappeared. Sorry about that! πŸ˜›
I did, thank you! I hope you did, too! πŸ˜€

  • Sounds like you’re having fun with prep! Oh, I nominated you for an award (or two)!

  • Cool! My sister and I are about to do a big release, and we also are doing the FDC, so I’ve been sewing a lot.
I know the feeling about not being prepared! We went to a craft fair once, and we kept running out of tulle, so we didn’t have enough tutus made, and that was what everyone was the most interested in. It was pretty embarrassing.
Are you just making the disney princesses’ main dress from the movie, or are you making others too?
    Kathleen

    • Oh, dear! Things similar to that happen to me, too. You just never know what the people are going to want!
My goal is to have every single main dress made (I just have to do Mulan and Tiana now), but I also have some other dresses of theirs. Only certain princesses have other dresses, though, so a few only have their main dress πŸ™‚
      ~Jaclynn~

      • I know! I wanted to make Elsa dresses, but we just ran out of time. I should have focused on making a few at least. They would have sold really well, and nobody else had Frozen stuff.
        Oh! Ok.

  • Wow! Your probably super-duper busy. Good luck, Jaclynn!! πŸ˜€

  • I love reading things like this! Could you do it again this year?

    • I’m glad you like my Hillside posts! Sure, it’ll probably be really soon since Hillside is coming up quick – eeks! I need to crochet πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€
      ~Jaclynn~

      • Can’t wait to see it! πŸ˜€

How much inventory do you usually make for it? I’m in the 3rd Annual Village Christmas Craft Fair, which isn’t as big, but I’m wondering how much (as an estimate) I should make. I have a bunch, and a lot of my friends (and the younger kids at church :P) already want stuff from my booth, but I figure doll clothes inventory is different from others. (It’s on Nov 7 and I’m doing lots of last minute sewing, lol)

        • That’s awesome! Sounds like you’ll definitely be a success πŸ™‚
LOL! Well, you see, I am a major procrastinator. I haven’t started preparing for Hillside at all yet and it’s 4 weeks away…. Hehe…. XD
Usually I only bring one of each costume that I make and I take orders for them but don’t charge shipping πŸ˜‰ All the other little things I sell like hats, poncho sets, etc., I try to have about 3 or 5 of those in different colors.
This year, though, I’m planning on having some costumes to sell right from my booth, but not every outfit. I’m only making extra of what is more popular or what I think will sell more (for example, Frozen and Star Wars costumes).
I’m also planning to have more affordable modern clothing. It’s sad, but a lot of people go to craft fairs and try to treat it as a garage sale, offering lower prices and just wanting to buy things cheap. So I try to make sure to have affordable, cute little things to sell πŸ™‚
I know this doesn’t exactly tell you how much inventory to bring, but I hope this at least gives you an idea πŸ™‚
          ~Jaclynn~

          • Thank you, that’s super helpful! I’m hoping to get an Etsy but I have to figure out the business license and stuff (from what I can tell it’s required but free) so by then hopefully I can take orders.
Ooh I’m sure both of those will sell really well! Frozen isn’t new but still sooo popular!
Yes, that’s another thing! I’m trying to have the cost be low but not too low. The dresses will be $15 and I have to figure out shirts and shorts (I’m making both historical and modern stuff) so I don’t really have cost figured out…
This definitely helped! πŸ˜€ Thank you!
Also, I’m hoping to go to Hillside this year! I’ve asked my mom, it’s just not the closest to us. That’s the reason we didn’t go a few years ago..but I really hope I can! πŸ˜€

          • Oh, that’s great! You don’t have to have an Etsy to take orders at your craft fair, though. Just get their name and address, have them pay there, and then you’ve got an order! πŸ™‚
I know, I can’t believe how huge Frozen is still!
Yeah, prices are always hard for me to figure out, too. Usually, I figure out the price it is really worth (from the time it takes to make, cost of material, labor, etc) and then subtract $5 and I have my price πŸ™‚ Some of the outfits in my shop I could sell at $40, but I do $35 so it’s more affordable for people πŸ™‚
Yay! I’m so glad it helped! You’re welcome! πŸ™‚ Oh yay!!! I hope you can come! πŸ˜€
            ~Jaclynn~

          • Ooh that’s good! I still want an Etsy, but I’m glad that works!

The fabric I have is mostly what I got for free (I got a lot of fabric from my grandma), and I don’t know exactly what it costs, so I guess I’ll try to figure that out. πŸ™‚

          • Yeah, it makes it easy. I have an invoice book, so I have them write their info on there and if they’d like I give them a copy of it so they know what they’re getting πŸ™‚ Sometimes it’s good to get an email or phone number in case there are problems or questions, too πŸ™‚
            Oh that’s really nice! πŸ™‚
            ~Jaclynn~
